Laurel and Aspen, they have both been inside the mudroom for a couple of days now. Due to a severe and unexpected change in the weather, I decided to move them indoors. Factoring into that decision was the change in behavior, in several of my resident cats inside the enclosure. This is a big enclosure, but it’s not huge.
There are currently five residents living in there. All of them are in various stages of kidney failure, all of them spray, even the Burn kitties are out there because they are also master sprayers.l
Laurel and Aspen, sad to say, they spray. We are going to do a backsplash on the walls of the mudroom in cheap linoleum. I have several pieces left from one of the builds. It’s rolled up and stored in the barn. So will use that to start. Then we’ll go from there.
Next, we’ve decided that, for the sake of the kittens, to turn my beautiful back deck into an even more beautiful catio! Nathan has agreed to come over and do the measurements, he will put on paper (because he’s very good at this) his plan on how he’s going to build it. I will be paying for what’s needed to do the catio. Nathan is not charging me for any labor.
My focus now becomes starting to stash away what I can that will jump start this project. After bill pay, I just see what’s left and go from there. But there are times when I can squirrel some money away for a project that’s needed.
With such bizarre weather patterns recently where we’ve gone from 40° to 94° and then back down to almost 30°. It’s hard to figure out how to keep the two babies comfortable. I had gone out and gotten them two self-warming beds because the weather had just suddenly plummeted. (they have a heating pad in there.) However, Aspen who I firmly believe is Alpha, she pushes her sister off. Then to top it off,we were just hammered with rain, wind, thunder/lightning it was nuts. The next day it was 90°. This is what is throwing me into the path right now into deciding this project.
i can’t predict the weather (apparently in Oregon, neither can the experts.) But what I can do to keep these kitties in a safer place than they left. Add an outdoor catio, which will also be not only wrapped with wire but also pet-proof screen. They will be able to get in or out of the weather to a safer place. Currently they are back in my bedroom inside a big dog cage for the night. In the mudroom it gets extremely hot which is odd, because in the first build, right after Michael left. I was told that they triple insulated the room. I think they lied. That room gets so hot. I can’t even sit in it and that’s with the fans running. At the time they were trying to get me to stop using it for a cat room. He wanted to completely demo the wall between the cat enclosure and the kitchen. I told him no and he wasn’t happy but he didn’t knock the wall down. So now I’m trying to accommodate with fans to get the best results to cool it down in there.
Anyway, I’m rambling and I need to wrap this up. It’s been a long day. I hope those who are reading my words are just having a nice quick Rescue from everything. I hope they have a cup of tea or coffee nearby or maybe something even stronger. But they’re just breathing, they’re just stopping in their day to see how we are doing . So thank you for those of you who read this. Trying to get better about writing in it. Just too much going on behind the scenes to even want to go there. I’m just doing all I can to let these kittens know that they are finally safe.
