End of the Year Cat Rescuer’s Prayer
by: Mary Anne Miller
While you are shopping at the mall,
Buying gifts for family and friends.
Remember those who answer the call,
Our giving never ends.
All year long our phone consistently rings,
Ears numbed with tales of woe.
Cats and kittens in distress,
Grabbing equipment off we go.
We hit the roads never knowing for sure,
What’s waiting round the bend.
A cat neglected, weak or cold,
A kitten without a friend.
Long hours spent dispensing meds,
Fluids, food, supportive care.
Prayers sent daily into the sky,
Knowing that He cares.
Sometimes He calls out to them,
Much sooner than we’ve planned.
The grief and tears following the loss,
It’s hard to understand.
And then the phone, it rings again,
Demanding our attention.
We push past grief focusing on,
Needs beyond comprehension.
So as you shop and chat and text.
Should you pass a donation jar.
Tuck a few bills down deep inside.
The monies will go far.
From those of us daily in the trenches,
We send you from our computer-
Our deepest, sincerest Holiday wish-
“Remember to spay and neuter!”
