What are the Odds?

My life is so bizarre, I swear sometimes, I wonder just what the heck I am doing?

Yesterday, I received a call from a good friend of mine. She lives near a pretty popular park and she will call me from time to time because dumped kitties find their way to her door. She said she had a Russian Blue show up the other day.He was neutered, friendly but skinny as all beat-out and just exhausted. I asked her if she had taken him to the vet yet? She can’t really afford it but I told her that at least she should take him in and see if he is microchipped. She said she would do that and call me back.

Turns out the cat IS microchipped and was turned over for adoption to me in 2010! He was previously owned by a young girl who has issues and was losing her home and moving to a homeless shelter.

Grayson was adopted out immediately. I called the number I had for the family but the number is disconnected. After our slamming storm subsided here, I drove over to the apartment only to find it vacant. I wonder if they dumped him? The park is a long way from where they live.

At any rate, I don’t have the room for him right now, so Dee is going to keep him until we find a home for him. He needs groceries badly and I just have to wonder what happened to the “loving home” I found. Dee said not to beat myself up, that no one who adopts has visionary powers to see into the home after the person leaves a cat. She reminded me how shelters adopt out animals daily and never EVEN visit the homes of the people wanting the animals. I do the best I can, and sometimes I get it right- other times it can just go wrong.

A Note of Thanks

This just in from Truman’s owner:

Mary Anne,
I have put some pictures of Truman on your facebook page. I have enjoyed him so much. He is really opening up. I am the cat whisperer. I have needed him a lot since I am going through empty nest syndrome. I am so grateful for all the gracious people who made sure that Truman had a loving home. He gets tuna a lot and his coat is really silky. He had a ear infection that is being treated and his eyes are clearing up. No more eye buggers. He sings a lot. I hear him when he is settling down for a nap he sings.

My favorite moment so far with him is when he was smiling so big he had dimples!! Never knew a cat could do that. I hope to one day be able to get it on film. I love the way he sashes around the house. Makes me think of a cartoon.

Midgie Moo from Katmandu and him are getting along famously. They race around the house like two stallions. I don’t have the heart to tell them not to run in the house. (Remember I have empty nest syndrome) They are my other kids.

Truman Cat of Contentment
truThank you again everyone.

Update on Google

She has bruising on the underside of her belly, and on her neck. She has lost one claw and I am supposed to watch for blood in her urine. If I see that, I am to bring her back immediately. She will be sore, I am told for at least 2-3 weeks. But she is alive, she is eating and drinking so it could be so much worse.

Two phone calls almost back-to-back brings two kittens back home.

This afternoon I took a rushed trip out to Eugene and Cottage Grove to fetch back Google and Fiona. What are the odds that both these cats had dog encounters? Google was mauled by a German Shepherd when the Shepherd jumped a high barrier in the house and grabbed Goog by her throat!

Fiona on the other hand, when confronted by a very large pit bull decided to defend herself and did so well enough that the dog got the worst of it! YAY Fiona! The husband was really angry when he came back from a vacation to find out his wife adopted a cat without his knowledge and his “$2,200.00 pit bull had a messed up face!” He made some ugly threats about what he would do to Fiona if I didn’t come and get her NOW!!!

Both cats are back with me- Google seems to be quite painful in her shoulders and belly area- and Fiona aka Warrior Queen has retired to the top of the cat condo. What a day! I will watch Goog overnight and then depending on what happens tomorrow, I may have to take her to the vet for a check. I don’t even know when this grab took place. I am waiting to hear from her last owner who wasn’t home when I fetched Goog off her porch (in a cat carrier)>

Grace has company

I have no clue what took Mannix from us tonight, but at late night check, I found this one month old in his bed. He was gone. He will be the second of the park litter kitties to go to the Bridge unexpectedly. He was fine a few hours ago. I was cuddling with him on the bed and I have no idea what happened. There isn’t a mark on him- he just has passed away. I hope it is my over-tirend brain, but Paris his sister looks punky to me. I took her temp- she is normal- but she just looks off….:( I’ll say it again- I HATE Kitten Season.

The Interview

It was held inside the cat enclosure and it was a bit nerve-wracking. Since Bently decided to share the spotlight- that made it a bit better. Thank God it wasn’t live! LOL

He tried to lead me down the political path but I am so not political. I told him I am in it for the cats and we talked a bit about society’s perception of cats. I told him it was rather telling when I go to the local grocery store to find cat food and find the food sandwiched between the poisons and the trash bags! Reinforcing in minds of ignorance that cats are disposable or should be destroyed.
We talked a lot, I just hope I didn’t put my foot in my mouth to many times. He was really nice and in the end, sympathetic to my cause.

If you go to YouTube and type in Senator President Peter Courtney Salem Oregon Senate Bill 6 you will be introduced to a rather bizarre and often graphic rendition of the introduction to this bill. Not only does what he is saying make any sense- but it also slams home why this bill is so poorly written.

I can’t get the link to transfer-so you have to do the footwork yourself. I would warn you not to have small children nearby as you listen to this man talk.

He is a Jack Russell terrier in a kitty suit!

Barnabus came to us about four days ago. The activity and aggression level of this five month old kitten was so over-the-top, the first thing I did was get him neutered.

It takes awhile to calm down that testosterone level, so he is in the Intro cage when I am not out there among the cats. I ‘ve let him out a few times when I can supervise- and he terrorizes everyone! The Alpha’s (who I thought would school him fairly fast) now run in terror when he gets released. LOL I think Barnabus is going to be a high alpha.

His back story is he was found on craigslist and rescued by a family with young children. He proceeded to bite everyone in the house (severely) causing the mom to find other options for him. She called me asking me if I ever swap kittens with people. She wanted to trade him for Curly. She said she was looking for a barn for him- but he is not a good candidate for a barn cat because he has a lot of white in him. Predators would find this kitten fairly fast at night.

I took Curly over and met “Striker” he was a bit out of control but not bad. We did the swap and now I am looking for a good home for him. He would do well with no other cats and perhaps a middle to large-breed dog to help him run off his energy.

This morning, when I took him out, he was a bit more calm but not by much. A typical kitten, he has to get into everything and proceeded to crawl into the interior of the pet fountain (after I washed it out) to let me know “hey mom? You missed a spot!” Then he decided to climb up the garden hose to see where that might lead and made a gigantic leap from the top of the hose to the top of his cage (at least 5 feet)

He is a cow kitty- and his ears are HUGE- he has Serval ears for sure. He’s definitely going to have to go to an active home with older kids where he is the only kitty before he will be happy and settle down. Until then, I get to wrangle him!

I’ll be posting pics of him later this afternoon so you can see his bunny ears. He has beautiful markings, he was probably just taken from mom way to soon, is poorly socialized and not used to other cats.
