On another note, Sheba and Truman went off to loving homes tonight!
Here is Bristol after her lion shave. She also has a bruised paw and is now terrified of the cat carrier. She shot out of that carrier so fast you would have thought she was a launched missle! The good news is nothing nasty was hiding underneath all of her massive mats!
Thanks to all of you who allowed this transformation to happen. She seems a lot happier now!
This morning as I loaded Bristol into the carrier (she kept escaping) to take her in to be sedated and clipped-on the last round of “let’s try to stay inside the carrier please!” game, as I shut the door, I didn’t realize her front paw was in the way. 🙁 She gave one scream when I shut the door, and I immediately realized what I did and I scooped her up and loved on her and told her I was so sorry. I checked out her paw and didn’t see any damage nor was there any heat- but I felt horrible about the accident. Her paws are already sore from a botched declaw and I did this to her as well? When I dropped her off I asked them to please examine her paws and make sure I didn’t do major damage to them. But her one scream is still echoing in my ears and I feel like such a scrud.
Google’s digestive upsets have finally settled down thanks in large part to the Synacore that she is on. She is completely user-friendly and a lovely kitty and it is time to get her spayed and find her a loving home. I have a feeling a lot of people are going to want her- but it has to be a special home to take her because of her special needs-
Pictures speak a thousand words and here is how far she has come since arriving here-
here she is the first day she arrived:
and here is a photo taken just today
This cat just breaks my heart. She lays in one spot all day and can hardly move because her skin is glued by those mats. I can’t pet her because she is so matted there is not one part of her that isn’t matted and those mats hurt. One vet tech explained that when they are so tight against the skin, any touch makes the kitty think her skin is on fire. God only knows what lies under those mats.
CATS Inc is $60.00 shy of covering this unexpected procedure of putting her under to shave her completely on Weds so if anyone can help in any way- it would be appreciated. I am hoping after Weds Bristol will emerge a happier, healthier kitty- but only time will tell-
At least she chose the bed as her spot of choice! You can see her paws in the air kneading the clouds- she does this all of the time even though her claws are no longer there- 🙁
Adopted today were the following kittens!
Pearl
Sahara
Fawn
Rayne
Sahara and Fawn went to the same home to a lovely lady who recently lost her two siamese buddies to kidney disease and thyroid issues. They were 16 years old. I have no qualms about leaving these two special kitties with such a stellar individual and I know she will love and care for them till the end of days-
Pearl went to a family in Springfield and when the little girl saw this amazing kitten her eyes lit up but she very carefully sat still on the floor while Pearl explored her new bedroom. There was at least a 7 foot cat post in the room so I am sure the Queen of Perches will be quite at home there.
When I got home and kicked off my shoes, I received a call from a gentleman who lives about 20 minutes from us. He is looking for a kitten for his family. I loaded up India and Rayne and went over there, delighted to find a family ready to receive Rayne in all her mischievousness- so India came back home with me.
It has been a busy day but a rewarding and satisfying day and now these kittens who have brought me so much joy (and worry) are healthy and ready to share their love with others.
Here are some photos of the cat enclosure and it is nothing fancy pretty rough around the edges but it serves its purpose well-
This afternoon I got a call from a lady who had some cats dumped on her place. She said she was going to keep one of them but the female is a long-hair and hubby is allergic. Said the cat follows her husband all over the yard and poor man just gets stuffed up and that is outside! I had met this woman before where she showed me an incredible act of kindness at a local business so I told her I would come and get the kitty.
This kitty is a senior kitty. She looks a lot like our Kabota (may he rest in peace) But she has been outside so long that her whole body is one mess of matted hair! I took her to the vet where she tested negative, they dewormed and deflead her and then tried to shave her. I also discovered during that visit that this beautiful girl has been front-paw declawed and one of her claws is starting to come back causing her pain and the inablity to walk very well on that foot.
I am calling her Bristol and she is not a happy camper. They tried to shave her- but she would have none of it- so I had to make an appointment to get her shaved on Weds when they will have to SEDATE her to get her matt-free! Poor kitty- I did borrow a friend’s camera to take photos of her and as soon as I get them from Dee- I will post them here.
Looks like she will probably be a long-term resident here and live in Cyclone’s pad. I doubt I will find anyone who wants to adopt a 9-10 year old girl with a botched declaw and other issues.
I was petting her (even though she was growling at me) and I told her I was sorry someone thought so little of her that they got her claws removed and then tossed her outside for whatever reason.
But she is gorgeous and I hope in a few days she will settle down and know she is safe-
Please Keep voting for my shelter CATS Inc. in Sweet Home Oregon- Vote daily until the end of time- just kidding- just till the end of this month!
He has been gone for two months and now the gal has dropped him back at my door. The reason she gave me is he isn’t getting along with her other cat- but after looking at this black kitty- I suspect it runs a bit deeper than that excuse. He is dribbling urine. Just drops are being left on wherever he happens to be laying on- which is never a good sign.
He is 9 months old and he is not the same kitten I dropped off at her home two months ago. I sense another vet visit looming.
I started him on Baytril after consulting with my vet and will take him in later tomorrow. Right now, he is in Cyclone’s pad decompressing. He doesn’t want to eat and is hiding and when I do go and touch him, he is extremely sensitive in his rear end- so much so that he will tuck his tail in so tightly against his body it almost vanishes. He shows every indication that he might have been hurt. Do I think the gal hurt him? No, but perhaps her boyfriend or roommates boyfriend did- or maybe he fell? I don’t know- One out, one in a revolving door must exist here.
Tomorrow another home visit this one for Jackson the other male Siamese boy. Right now I am beginning to doubt my powers of observations and starting to mistrust my judgement calls on these adoptions. The family tomorrow has just lost their 22 year old Siamese male and the husband has been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer and the wife wants him to have a companion to keep him company while he rests. They have two rescued Siamese girl kitties but they have bonded with the kids and she is looking for another that might bond with the husband. I will just have to be careful about my judgement because having these kittens come back home is heartbreaking. I want to put them in the right home not just any home that may want them.
