I had to take Linus to the vet this morning due to his eye just not staying open. The vet numbed the eye and took a look but it appears I will have yet another one-eyed kitten soon. 🙁 As a last-ditch effort we are switching the drops to his eyes and hoping it will keep the eye open- but the eye is completely dead at this time. I want to wait until the baby is a bit older and if these new drops work- we can wait. If not, we have to take it out before the infection spreads.
Another fund-raiser looms now for yet another eye surgery. Just the fact that he is still alive is nothing short of a miracle so we count our blessings there- Here he is at the vets and he in not a happy kitty!
Oh, poor Linus. The trouble never stops at your place. I wish I could give something. I’m out at the moment. It may be time to ask the Cat Blogosphere site to advertise your need.
You know John, I think I am going to wait on a fundraiser. His brother and sister’s eyes were just as bad a week ago, and now they are clear-eyed and bushy-tailed. I think because he is the runt, he just might be able to beat all this chemosis in his third eyelid with time, TLC and patience. Of course if the vet overrules my cautiousness, I will have no choice but to go ahead with the operation. But donations have been down for quite awhile and today I had to do something I haven’t had to do in a long time and buy canned food for the cats. It is just the cycle of things- but I am hoping Linus can beat this and not need to have his eye removed.
I don’t know how the economy is elsewhere, but here in southern Alberta, prices have risen and the oil industry has fallen, so I’m not surprised donations are down. What surprises me is that so many people still find the ability to give.
I hope Linus follows his siblings’ lead in recovering from his eye troubles.
My feline specialist agrees with my decision to wait a bit so that makes me feel better. The economy sucks all over pretty much and I understand that all to well. Most people that we know are living paycheck to paycheck. Just when I am about three prayers away from shutting down CATS God shows me it still needs to exist so I stay open on faith alone. The fact that these three babies are still alive is nothing short of a miracle. They are now at the stage where they are purring and their personalities are developing. They are almost but not quite off the bottle- but oh so close. Normally, I wouldn’t rush them off the bottle but with Mike in the hospital, it would make it so much easier to see him if I knew the kittens would eat canned food left out for them. Right now they are my mixture of goat’s milk, baby food and L-Lysine delivered every five hours round the clock in a very war-battered baby bottle!
Case of kitten food on its way via amazon – will arrive October 6th. Hope Mike is steadily improving, and that he will be home soon.
Thank you for the kitten food donations guys. Can’t wait till they get here. But God smiled on me today. Safeway is having a sale on canned cat food- 20 cans for $9.00- I was able to stock up a bit. Usually this food is donated weekly but of course now that we need it so badly- we have only had a few cans show in the weekly stuff. But I got all I could this morning-
