I have been doing a lot of sleeping. I sit down in my chair and the next thing I know 4-6 hours have passed and I wake up. I guess everything is catching up to me now. In between my sleeping episodes, kittens are being adopted. Glacie, Pumpkin and Autumn have all been pre-adopted. The families won’t get the kittens until after the 23rd and the spays, but the homes are wonderful and the people are so excited about the adoptions. I could have adopted out the calico sisters four times already that’s how much interest there is in them. But the home I chose, there are no small kids, no other pets, a retired couple and it is out in the country so if they do get outside, there are no busy roads nearby for them to get in trouble. The couple is going to put a cat-proof fence around part of their acreage so the girls can go outside and stay safe.
This leaves us with the tortie sisters and mom. I’ll probably end up taking the tortie girls to the shelter I am working with depending on how long the current kittens there will stay there before getting adopted. Because in this area, most people think torties are ugly!
I am glad that you are getting some much needed rest. I know you hate the idea of them going to the shelter, I am glad it is working out for the babies. I happen to love torties, they are so shy but vocal, calm and content when given the love and space that they need. I miss my little girl her name was buttons but she was very vocal and met me at the door when I got home to tell me all about her day and if the others were bad, she would tell on them, we called her meow meow! prayers continue for you, Mike and the kitties!
Mary Ann, talk about you sleeping a lot lately. I must have been asleep for the last 30 years. That is about how long I have been taking in stray cats. In all that time I have never heard of or seen a “cat proof fence (that will go around acreage)” Please, please enlighten me. I would love to know that such a thing exists. I could finally move to the country. What a blessing that would be.
I hope Mike gets to feeling so good that he actually is glad to have his problem gone. And you, start taking better care of yourself. I was thinking all the time I was reading about your car adventure about the huge number of cats and kittens that would have no chance–none–without you. Please take special care.

There are two fences that I would recommend. If I ever get a large sum of money, this fencing is what I would put around our 3 acres. It is expensive- it would cost us $10,000 to fence the entire place BUT it would keep the cats in, the wildlife and harmful humans out. You can go to purrfectfence.com or kittyfence.com but purrfect fence is the better fencing in my opinion.
I can’t believe so many people think torties are ugly! There are more people I know who think they are beautiful. And my roommate Binga will whap anyone who calls her “ugly,” that’s for sure!
Some cats strike a chord with my by their appearance but it’s usually the ‘ugly’ ones that do, so I’d probably take them in first. But in truth, the appearance of a cat means nothing to me. Well, my first cat I was initially interested in because she looked so demure and lady-like in her picture. I adopted the second because she was purring up a storm and so excited about everything (deceptive little harpy: the only thing she gets excited about is food!) and two others I fostered and kept because they were so shy it would have been agony for them to go elsewhere. They’re all beautiful to me.
