I wish I could tell you guys for sure when the surgery will be performed, but his leg has been really bad the last few days and when we got to the hospital and they unwrapped it- well, it wasn’t pretty. They are fearing a blood infection (but they have said this countless times before and it never turns out to actually be a blood infection- just some other type). The doctor did say that IF it was a blood infection and it got into the bone they would have to take the leg at the hip. If this again turns out not to be the case, they are looking at mid calf but really won’t know until they get in there and assess the damage. They initially had him set up to do surgery on Thursday, but one look and sniff at the bad leg turned those plans sour.
They said they will give me a day’s notice. I will be up there two days post-op and then will have to come home again. Surgery will either be Friday-Saturday or Monday. I would love to get up there more during his stay, but it just isn’t financially possible or feasible to do so. Everything hinges on his leg and how the leg responds to treatment. If they take the leg in a swollen state (which they would never do) it wouldn’t go well for the surgeons or the patient. They have to let the leg rest, lose the swelling the redness and in the meantime they are doing tests to find out what is infected at this time. They triple bagged his therapy boot because of the stench and even though this came home in the trunk of my car, my whole car reeks now. I left the windows down hoping a feral cat might go in and spray and make it smell better! 🙂
So I really can’t tell you guys any more than this. He is pretty tired right now and I just talked to him. He was waiting for them to come in and wrap his leg so he can eat his dinner and go to sleep. He has his computer with him, his new MahJong game he got for Christmas and some books. I think he will be in longer than the “expected” 6 days- but we will just see how it goes.
I don’t know what is going to happen from here. All I can do is pray that God’s hands will guide theirs and He will in charge of the whole production. I’ll be in touch when I know more.
Love you guys- thanks for any prayer support you can manage for him-
Praying all goes well for Mike and you!
That legs doesn’t make anything easy for Mike, does it? Keep us posted when you can. I know it is probably impossible but he just needs to relax and let others take care of him. Continued wishes for good luck to him!
