I am still unable to touch them, but they are slowly starting to trust me-

they are beautiful – they look so soft – wont take them long to come around 🙂
How old are they? I have a kitten whose around three months and i was told that he would become socialized to me but no one else because hes too old. Hes to the point where he will let me pet him but will hiss with sudden movements. Ive only had him indoors for a week now. Anyways. He gets nuetered tomorrow and im wondering if its the best option to let him go back with his colony or continue to try to socialize him.
Don’t swallow the myth that stray kittens can’t be socialized or older stray cats can’t either. Unless they are fully feral (and hardly any are) they can be socialized (not tamed) big difference in my book. I would be happy to help you find your way to the trust zone with this kitten if you want to try.
Clarity’s kittens are beautiful! I’m so glad they’ve come out from under the bed.
Would agree that is a Myth! If he lets you touch him, you’re half-way home! I love my scradey-cat (born to a feral mom in a garage). Now a 6 yrs old sweetie, still quick to dash for cover but loves feathers, strings & treats. Well worth the time it took to get her calm & trusting.
Clarity’s kittens are stunning. Nothing like a bit of string to make everyone happy.
Actually, it’s nekoflies best cat toy around. Supervised play only as string looks a lot like mouse innards and if you leave it lying on the floor cats andkittens will swallow it and then you are really in trouble with vet debt and health issues.
My concern is brining the kitty home if it is carrying diseases to my cats. The kitty has got her rabies, boosters, and panlukemia vaccine (i think)… but hasnt been dewormed or any orther blood tests. I cant know for certain that my cats wont get something. I mean how can you know for certain? Do you have any advice for this?
Oh the “he kitty” turned out to a she and shes all back to normal after her sirgery! Yay!
This is what I do- just based on how many years I have been rescuing. First I test the newcomer. Any of the common diseases that comes up means the kitty doesn’t come home with me. If kitty tests clean for the infectious diseases, I vaccinate then bring the kitten or the cat home but keep the cat away from the rest of the group for at least three days so the vaccinations take hold. Then I relax a bit. I can’t afford to vaccinate and booster all the cats so it falls on the person who is adopting the cat or kitten to do the boosters, but I do the initial vaccination.
That’s what I do and I have only had to deal with feline distemper once in the thirty plus years of rescue. Once was enough though- lost a lot of kittens within two weeks.
Thanks gor the advice i got a vet lined up for the blood test. Im ganna house the kitty in my bathroom for a few days until she gets used to my cats smell and then slowly introduce them.

It will likely take more than a few days to get them used to each other. If you would like, I wrote an article about introducing cats you can find it here: http://www.felinexpress.com/cat-behavior/introducing-cats.asp
