Squirrel is the sweetest kitty except when it comes to giving her a pill. She is on Baytril and when I go to give her the pill, she takes her claw and hooks it right under my fingernail. It is as if she knows this is the most painful place on my body that she can reach! Every doggone time she does this.
Putting the pill into food doesn’t work as the pill is bitter so tonight at my wit’s end I decided to crush the pill with the spoon and then I rolled the pieces repeatedly between my fingers and by golly- after I mixed it in the food she ate it! i think it is a much better option then the one shared with me earlier today that said to put the food/pill mixture near the rump so kitty would lick it off- yep guess that would kill any aftertaste of a bitter pill!
We thought we suggested this already, but the post seems to have gone to some unknown location in the outer reaches of the web.
Anyway, if this is going to be along term project, you might want to talk to your V*T about trans-dermal application. Luna got some very bitter medication that way, and it was a bit messier, but a whole lot easier on everyone. You will need to find a compounding pharmacy, but there ought to be one somewhere in the area.
Have you tried feline “Pill Pockets” which can be found at pet stores? They are made by the same company that makes “Greenies” dental cat treats. My cat is on daily heart medicine and loves the chicken flavored pill pockets. I give her 1/2 an empty one before the one with medicine then the other empty 1/2.
