Raine

The Rangers said she has been hanging around the near-empty campground for over thirty days so tonight- she went to a new home!!  The woman has a little boy who needs a “friend” and I have no doubt that Raine can be that child’s buddy. One thing about polydactyl cats is they are super intuitive and clever. I have had the pleasure of owning 4 of them in the 35 years doing rescue and none have disappointed. I would love to keep her because in this area they are rare- but that isn’t what rescue is all about. Raine will have a wonderful, long life with a new family and she will be the only pet in the home. Couldn’t ask for better than that!

Oh Well that is why we do home checks. I wouldn’t even put a fish into that home. Dirty filthy floors, dirty diapers laying around- no room even showing a semblance of being cleaned in the last few months. Garbage just stacked everywhere- Holy Moly- so much for this adoption-

  1. Wow, it’s a good thing you do check first. What do you say when see a home in that condition? How do you refrain from saying something? The poor child probably does need a friend in all of that, but you can’t send Raine there. The mother will probably get a cat from a shelter – but I suspect the cat will fare better than the boy, poor thing.

  2. Raine was giving me messages the entire time we were there. We had gone into the bathroom a good room for nervous cats because there are very few hidey holes in a bathroom. The kids were screaming outside the door, and every time the kids would scream- Raine would noticeably flinch. Then suddenly Raine was gone! It was then I noticed a crack in the bottom of the tub and Raine had gone through the crack! All I could see was her tail. Not having her longer than 24 hours, when I called out to her, she just ignored me. So I carefully slid my hands into the crack until I had her in my back and rear legs in my grasp. I picked her rear up, took her back legs and crossed them under her belly and slowly slid her out praying all the time she wouldn’t freak out go forward, bite me or fight. She offered no resistance at all and when I had her in my arms, I cuddled her and told we were going home now.

I just told the woman- “I can’t leave a cat here and sleep at night.” Then we left. I am so grateful that Raine did not bolt forward and disappear into that tub. I sure didn’t want to lose her under that tub and I absolutely did not want to leave her there not even for ten minutes. Thankfully. God had His hand in this and Raine was able to come back where she is safe and loved.

  3. thankfully you still have her, but to be honest it sounds as if someone needs to be notified, child protective service or someone, that is no condition to have kids in. I pray that they will not be able to get any animal.

  4. You must have been so very relieved to have Raine out of that house, safe with you again. But as well, it must be disappointing. Even so, you definitely will be able to sleep tonight.
