Not only has kitten food (canned) and cat food (canned) been arriving almost non-stop for the last few days, but earlier today I get an unexpected phone call from a vet school who had heard about us and our work and they want to know if I have 5 cats to spay and could I bring them up tomorrow and pick them up Saturday? Boy what an answered prayer. My spays are way behind schedule (generally do them when the kittens reach 3 pounds) because of the ringworm and other health issues, but there are so many this year, I was really praying about how to cover the cost. The vet school calls it a teaching aid for students and it is no charge. They just want the females but I am talking with them to see if they would also do the males in the coming weeks- because the males are just as guilty at adding to the cat population then the unsprayed females are- so we are still talking.
And thank you ALL of our cat food angels who reached out and helped out in a mighty way. With the cold weather fast approaching, you have no idea how many lives you are going to save with your gift.
wow that is great to hear, just goes to show that prayers work an miracles do happen.
Yay! God is truly good!!!!
This weekend in Canada is Thanksgiving. It sounds like a good time for such things to happen. That veterinary school was a lucky stroke. Would they be open to you supplying them with cats for neutering and spaying on an on-going basis? Maybe not a lot, but steady?
Here is the set-up they run spays only for cats from 10/9-11/18. They only do the females but I was told this morning, if I accidentally send a few males along with the group, they will not come back with their balls. 🙂 They will spay today Briar, Bramble, Berri, Mudslide and Medora. That leaves us with four females and eight males to get into the clinic before the deadline. I asked why they only prefer the females and was told that with the males, the students don’t learn anesthesia to the extent that they do with the females and “anyone can neuter a cat anywhere within ten minutes time.” The fact that they will even consider taking the males leaves me feeling double-blessed this week.
With all this kitty action lately- I wanted to let you all know that Mike is back home now. He still can’t wear his leg due to a hole in his amputated leg (I hate the word stump). He is pretty weak and tired, he has lost 15 pounds and he does a lot of sleeping during the day. The newest kitty Barnum has adopted Mike’s beard as his favorite sleeping spot!
Linus has no eye to speak of but I am going to take him over to OSU small animal clinic and let the students and teachers see him and give me another opinion on the eye removal. My concern now lies with Lionel, Linus’ brother who is barely eating. He fights the bottle, won’t take food from the plate but this morning, I discovered he will eat if I put the food in my hands and hand feed him. Hoping this will turn the tide for him and he will start eating better and not try to sample my fingers on the way!
I’m glad that Mike is home. Hopefully in those best of surroundings, he will improve immeasurably.
Poor Linus. He’s gone through so much in his young life. Maybe he will get good news now.
