The vet called early this morning and told me that Popeye’s fever is down but he was wrecking the heck out of his cage, yowling and being a total pill, Would I please come and get him?
He’s been here all day and the only place I can put him is back in the deck enclosure. I have three fans, a bucket of ice in front of two of the fans. I have tried him in the house- won’t work, very confrontational with the other cats. No cages big enough in the house to keep him in without him stressing out so he is on CL as a special needs kitty in need of a foster home or a permanent loving home. I have done everything I can do to keep him cool and he was open mouth panting and his temp was raising so I gave him 40 ml of fluids and he tipped over? It was the strangest thing. I have never seen anything like it in my life. He took the fluids, then he just froze almost like he was moving slow motion- and tipped over.
I have asked all my volunteers and friends if they can take him but so far, he seems to be stuck here. Thankfully the triple digit temp is supposed to lower tomorrow. I hope so, there is a real possibility that despite all our efforts, he might not make it.
The poor fellow. There seems to be something wrong with him that the veterinary can’t figure out. It may go pretty deep.
Poor guy – I am sending loads of purrs his way!
He is doing a bit better. He doesn’t seem to mind large-breed dogs he loves people but it is clear he has been on the streets a very long time. He needs a cool, comfortable room or house to hang out in- shows no evidence of being a sprayer. He is figuring out slowly how to jump up on things but he sometimes will fall. I have him in an outside enclosure with fans- buckets of ice in front of the fans, I dimmed the wattage of the light bulbs out there, put the fans on low and tried to minimize the noise. I gave him several kitty caves to hide in and thankfully he seems to be doing better. But he still needs a good, loving home as soon as possible. I did turn one home down already, the lady already had 5 cats. He will tolerate one or two cats, beyond that you are looking for trouble.
I wish I could be his human companion, but with 2 dogs and 3 cats already not to mention how far away I am, I know that is not possible. Prayers that he continues to improve and someone out there with a great big heart gives him a chance. Continue what Mary Anne has started and give him a great life. He deserves it.
He just had eye surgery. Could he have infection?
There is no evidence of infection according to the vets. That was the first thing they looked for when they were “boarding” him for us.
