Bentley has been adopted today by a retired couple in Woodburn. The man is on dialysis three times a week and he wants a loving feline companion. I could think of no better ambassador than Mr. Bentley. The wife is healthy and they have three teenage granddaughters that visit often. The house was beautiful and although Bentley and I did not have an easy goodbye (we have been through so much) He is smart, I know he knew this would be the last time he would see me. I can still hear him crying as i shut the door.
And even though I cried on the drive home, I know in my heart that this is the right thing for him and he will settle down once I leave.
Here he is with his new owner Chris- his attention is diverted to the man Miles who was standing off to the side. This was a hard adoption for me. I have turned down five homes for him so far. But, this one felt right and as long as he doesn’t get outside until they microchip him, he should be alright. They fell immediately in love with him and who wouldn’t? I told them that I hope their vinyl blinds survive! LOL I’ll call on Weds to see how he is doing. I will miss the little scamp.
I can not begin to imagine how hard this was for you. I am delighted that he got a permanent home with people that need him so much! But I hurt for you as well. You’re a strong lady to let your special pal go. Hang in there. Marian
those are some of the hardest and yet most rewarding adoptions. good luck and congrats to the new family
I just gave up my foster-cat Cammie. She went to a home seven hours away. She was distrustful of everything when she came to me. Yet, even after being cornered and coaxed and trapped in a carrier to go to the vet for a claw-trimming the previous day, she jumped on to my lap that evening for some petting and purring. She’d come a long way, and the next day, she went even further, all the way to her new home. It’s hard when you have to give up someone you’ve tried to help so much. We can only hope that they are loved and cared for.
OH my gosh, getting Bentley a home after you have been through so much with him, I remember when you almost gave up on him after he was so sick for so long but you hung in there with him. I hope the new parents know how to give him good belly rubs and chin skritches!!!! I hope they call and let you know he is ok and is loved and loves his new furever home!!!!!!!!! you did good, again MA!
Have a good life, Bentley. We hope you don’t have too much trouble training your new peoples.
PS: Mary Anne, have you ever considered tagging posts with things like the kittie names or something similar? If you can do that (easily) with whatever software you are using, it would make it easier for us to check back and track individual kitties. FWIW.
