We hired a handyman and he was amazing and a cat lover to boot! He helped us clear out the stalls. Now all we have to do is hire someone to dump a load of sand in these stalls to level them out, put down the wooden floor and we are ready to receive the ten seniors.
The new pad
Things seem to be working out. Have you figured out how to relocate all those kitties? We fear catching the last couple to cage for the move might turn into a battle. (it for sure would for all of us!)
They will all be put into a carrier for the move and come over in her van. We are going to take the woven wire roof and run it straight up to the existing roof of the stalls so the cats can’t get out. Plywood on the ground as flooring (I will cover this with inexpensive linoleum for easier clean-up will stop them from digging out.
This run in seems like a diamond in the rough! I’m so glad you can utilize this out building….way to go for the kitties!
I wish I could spare some money for you but Tucker’s escapade with constipation wiped me out for some time. Will you be mentioning this project on the Cat Blogosphere site? There may be some help there if you need it. All of this must be cutting into your funds.
I haven’t really had time to do much of a fundraiser. I have recently lost our monthly donation of cat food and cat litter so I am scrambling to find someone else who will help out this sanctuary and our cats. I have a meeting tomorrow morning with a rep from a major store and I hope it leads to good things. Taking these ten in and preparing a place for them is the easy part. The hard part comes in caring/feeding/vetting them for the rest of their days if there isn’t enough people coming forward to adopt them. It’s a constant struggle and if anyone out there has a good idea for fundraisers- please let me know as soon as you can and I will take it from there.
We have a load of pea gravel arriving this morning which we will use to level out the stalls. The stalls are sloped for a reason, we had a mustang who was prone to founder. They try and carry their weight on the front of their legs when they are in pain- so the vet suggested we slope the stalls- which we did.Of course we woke up to thunderstorms and so moving the gravel will have to wait until the weather clears.
Those stalls look perfect. Yup, feed/caring/vet for 10 more is a high ticket item. I dropped a stray at the vet today, $160 neuter&vacs, and that’s the just the start. He’s only 1 yr old.
It’s been tight lately but I can donate at least 10!!
From my babies to yours !!
Come on everybody !
