If this new kitty got any more aggressive trying to get me to pet her- I would need protection! I am still puzzled where her “feralness” is? But I have always maintained that in this part of the state anyway, “ferals” are few and far between. Most cats I have worked with fall into the category of “strays with feral tendencies.”
Phoenix is eating which is a grand sign! Some cats won’t eat for days on end and then it gets troublesome. But she gave me some activity in her litterpan last night and a bit of the kibble is gone.So even though she has cats peering at her through the window, it doesn’t seem to bother her all that much.
She will go to the vet today and hopefully they will just keep her and do the spay tomorrow. It will depend on how heavy their spay schedule is right now.
Hurrah! Activity at both ends from a cat is indeed a good sign.
Always a comfort to know the plumbing is hooked up correctly, even on an older kittie. 🙂
Our guess is this fierce, ‘feral’ kittie was grabbed by a skittish bean who panicked when the kittie struggled a little. Or maybe the beans got confoosed when Phoenix kept trying to cuddle with them.
“stray with feral tendencies” – I have noticed the same thing. Stray cats that were abandoned or lost that haven’t had human contact in a long time so get scared. In time they will remember the joys of human loves. Thanks for doing what you do for the kitties!!
I liken it to if we were stranded on a deserted island and left to fend for ourselves. How “primal” would we go? When a cat is booted outside and the door shut permanently, they have to survive. It is their instinct. It is this “feralness” that they bring out just to survive. Some people respond to this behavior with fear and loathing and “ferals” get a bad rap. True ferals are fearsome. You can’t get close to them for any reason without using trickery, patience and a ton of love and understanding. They can put you in the hospital their aggression is so over-the-top. But, in the long run, it’s all based on fear of humans and what happened to them that wasn’t good. To overcome that takes time. Most people want “instant kitties” much like they want their fast foods and fancy coffees within minutes. Cats have their own timeline and it is up to the person working with the cat to work on the cat’s time, not theirs.
Some cats are shy, when I was volunteering in a couple different shelters I noticed that the shelter people had called a few cats feral that the owners later showed up to claim. Those cats acted totally wild in the shelter, their entire attitude changed when the owners came in. They were never feral only scared.
