Tonight, Calico was placed with her new owner. a very nice retired logger/truck driver by the name of Ron. He is 50 years old, recently retired and ready to hit the road in his motor home to see America and he wants a companion along. I told him if he needs me to train Callie to accept a harness, I would be happy to do so. He will be getting her microchipped before the trip but they took to each other right away and she doesn’t have to live in the tri-level cage any longer.
I am sad though, saying goodbye to her was like losing Daddy all over again-
Bittersweet for you, but how wonderful for Calico. Hoping the sorrow will heal by knowing Calico is in a good place to enjoy her life. God Bless you!
I can’t help but think in the longer term you will find peace and happiness in knowing Calico has had the chance to build another one on one long term relationship. Clearly she and your father enjoyed shared that joy! He spoiled her, in just such a special way, so that nothing else would do! I am so glad you felt she had the opportunity to build on that foundation your father gave to her enjoy an immensely top drawer companionship. Certainly for Calico, thanks so much to you and your incredible level of effort, Good Lightning will strike twice!
So happy to hear she has what sounds like a wonderful new owner, though I can well understand how bittersweet this is. I hope you are sent many photos of Calico on her travels 🙂
Finding Calico a noo home has gotta be a mixed blessing for you. But you know she will be in good hands, and will get to travel the country.
With luck, you will be hearing about their travels, and they might even drop by once in a while to say HI.
It must indeed be sad to let go of Calico, a piece of your father. But I think it’s fitting that another gentleman, needing a friend, so he won’t be alone, will be taking care of her. God bless Calico.
