Fog has been adopted!

fog
This is Fog and he is a year and a half old. He is an affectionate, loving and tolerant kitty and he went to his new home this morning! He is with my CPA- he will be the only cat in the house and will have two adults and one 8 year old boy to love him. They have a dog, but Fog adores dogs and their dog is used to cats so it all should be okay.

Brandi flushed out a cat this morning in the tall grasses of the field! The cat ran up a tree and so I hustled the two dogs into the house and went to get the cat. He is pitch black and skinny as a post, dehydrated and has an URI- only pure survival skills got this cat to the walnut tree. I have him in my last room he is probably about six or seven years old. He took so much sub cu fluids that I am now out! I haven’t seen this cat before and am grateful for Brandi finding him and alerting on him. She came back when I called her as I figured out she was chasing a cat- it happened so quick. Poor kitty is in bad shape but not from being chased by Brandi but from being neglected and put outside to survive.

  1. Yay Fog! I’ve always thought he’s beautiful. Ps I adore your blog. I have 2 kittens, and we were so lucky that there are good people like you who help queens and kitties to help them find people that can love them. It makes me so happy to read the wonderful things you do for your cats and husband. And brandi and dex.

  2. Good news on both counts: Fog’s adoption and a cat saved who sounds like he may not have lasted much longer. We can only imagine what it feels like to go from having to be always alert and on guard against danger to being, at least a little, relaxed and well-fed and watered and comfortable. One cats goes, another comes in.

  3. Happy for Fog and getting a new home!! And happy for the new guy to get rescued. I had to relocate a feral, after she was spayed thank goodness, and she escaped my enclosure. She was only in it for 2 days, she escaped through the tiniest gap by the door. I did see her a week later, but now have not seen her since. There is no way she would have survived where she was, no food or water source and much traffic. What are the chances she is still around and just hiding out during the day. The one time that I did see her she went back into the enclosure to eat. I wanted her to eat since she was so thin so I did not attempt to approach her. I probably should have since I have not seen her since.

These ferals make me worry about them so much.

  4. I know, the old man died last night. Had Brandi not found him, he would have died alone in that grass. I would have never noticed as our grasses are so high and our mower is being repaired.

Set out food and water in as many places as you can- and just hope for the best. Fill the dishes at the same time(s) every day and if you are lucky she will come early and wait for the routine feedings. Good luck and yes they make us worry and when one dies in my care, I have doubts about what kind of cat rescuer I really am.

  5. I do not know of anyone who cares and rescues like you, never doubt yourself. The poor guy, at least he was with you and not all alone where something could have really hurt him.

I have been leaving food out, but am having difficulty with 4 baby raccoons. I just pray she is nearby and safe.

  6. Can you make a raccoon proof feeder? I can send you the plans through an email- it costs about $40.00 to make (unless you can scrounge thrift stores and junkyards and get lucky.

  7. i didn’t even know that was possible. I wish she would come out and eat during the day. I managed to crawl under my deck and put a plate of dry food where I knew my dogs could not get it. This afternoon, most of the food was eaten, I hope it was her! If it were raccoons, they would have eaten it all and made a mess.

The deck is deep in width and that is where I first spotted her after she escaped. She was sitting by some bushes like she had come out from under the deck, then she went into the enclosure and ate. There are plenty of places for her to hide in there and I am hoping that is where she is. I know she is safe in there. She was rescued with her 4 kittens at a local mall. She was by the entrance sign, by a very busy 6 lane highway, no food or water source and she was very thin. The kittens were emaciated, have ring worm and one sadly passed from FIP.

I do not have the kittens, another friend has the 3 remaining. She must have been dumped there. She is all white and young, poor girl. I just pray she sticks around. I would love to get her back into the enclosure, I know she would be safe then.

  8. If that raccoon-proof feeder actually works, we would like the plans, too. We have four (or so) stray kitties eating our food, and Dad really doesn’t want to feed any more raccoons than he already is.
