“What’s Your Story?”

This morning, I was relaxing in my easy chair upstairs, drinking my coffee and trying to collect myself for the day when Serena (now renamed Cheyenne) jumped on my lap!

At first she growled at me but I just kept breathing, after all, she had gotten up on her own accord. When I kept my breathing even and deep, she settled on my lap!

This is the first contact we have had since she arrived over a week ago. I have discovered that after removing all the mats which she had, she will shrink away from being touched on her back, just duck down quickly and walk away. No elevator butt for this girl, she growls if you try. She does like to be rubbed on the chin and the ears, so as we sat there bonding and I was rubbing her, I was wondering what her story was all about?

Who tossed this beautiful girl away like she was rubbish, and why was the first kitty rescuer so desperate to “get rid” of this dilute calico?

We enjoyed about a 15 minute bonding time when suddenly she growled, leaped off my lap and vanished back into the closet.

Oh well, it was sweet, sweet, sweet while it lasted. I don’t know what her story is, but her new chapters of her life begin for her now.

  1. She looks much more content in that picture than the one where she was under the bed. Beautiful cat, and I am glad you both had that serene moment!

  2. She was uncomfortable at first due to all the mats that were pulling on her skin. Only one mat had infected skin underneath it and it is clearing up just fine. She is a bit skittish, so I was surprised that she jumped on my lap. Baby steps that is what it is all about. 🙂

  3. You’ve probably thought of this already, but Cheyenne’s actions sound a little like the way Luna was when she first joined the Clowder. It turned out Luna had some urinary tract problems. Like, several years worth of problems. Infections, crystals, you name it.

Apparently, it hurt her to be touched anywhere past the neck.

  4. She’s such a beauty! We are currently taking care of a white and orange intact male cat — he was beaten up by another intact male owned by a neighbor. We’ve called this one Punkin. Someone evidently dumped him in this area because when we first saw him, he was beautiful, his fur meticulous and a nice plump kitty. However, since he’d obviously never had to fend for himself, his looks deteriorated. Our cats didn’t mind him, but the neighbor cat stalked him constantly. We’d hear the fighting nearly every night. Finally Punkin was in such terrible shape that we brought him into the house. Husband took him to the vet — he had wounds everywhere — vet prescribed ampicillin, we’ll have Punkin neutered on Tuesday. Once he recovers from his wounds and the neutering, we’ll try to find him an inside home.

Punkin was originally someone’s housecat. He’s not afraid of normal household noises, uses a litterbox, and “talks” a lot. I think he’s just grateful to be inside again, he’s never bitten or scratched any people and he’s really not a fighter. Fortunately he won’t be a lover either pretty soon! I wish his former owners could see what happened to him due to their ignorance in dumping their pet out here.
