With my boss out of town, I am pulling long hours at work. When I get home at night, the first thing I do is check on Shell. Tonight, when she was eating, the drool was back. It doesn’t look like the original nasty infected drool, but just loops of saliva that gets mixed up with her eating. I try to catch it with a pad of gauze but this just seems to annoy her. Peggy’s blanket is getting baptized now on a regular basis.
She stopped eating the A/D and now just wants babyfood (turkey seems to be her favorite) She goes to the vet in a few days for a work-up and evaluation- so really until the 1st there isn’t much to add.
She seems to be having tummy issues, when I pet or gently rub her tummy she acts agitated. I don’t see any stool in the litter pans though she is peeing in the pans. But last time when I thought she wasn’t passing stool, I found a pile in the corner of the far side of the room, so tomorrow before I go to work, I get to go poop searching- doesn’t that sound like fun? 🙂
on the one hand it’s good that she’s eating the baby foods, on the other hand it would be better if she ate her a/d, but when a kitty has as many issues as she does anything is better than nothing. it does sound like she may be constipated. will she tolerate any canned pumpkin? that might help get things moving.
My older girl, Annie, is 19 and has health issues. She will eat the ad for a time and then stops as well. She is now eating baby food as well several times a week. I have noticed that she does not poop as much when she is on the baby food compared to the regular cat food. You might ask the vet about that one. I was curious – I know Shell is alone during the day – have you tried leaving a radio on for her? It might help keep her company during the day. Marian in Houston
ugh! not the easter egg hunt I would want to have! maybe there’s pain associated with moving her bowels and is avoiding the litter box because she associates the box with the pain? poor baby; we purrs fur her efurry time we thinks of her!! *gentle headbumps* from us meowers.
Happy hunting, really, we hope you find some poop. We agree wif da Meezers, it would be better if she’d eat da good food but baby food is better den nothing. We’z still purring fur yoo Shelly!
I had to get the A/D food for one of my geriatric cats many years ago — that stuff is gross! It reminded me of bean dip and my cat would sniff it and walk away. I tried to hand-feed it with a small spoon, but he would still refuse it, shaking his head, and acting like I was trying to poison him! I was able to mix it with some regular canned food and fool him into eating some…. it was a battle every day. I was glad when the vet said it was better to just let him eat regular food and let him enjoy his last few months. I was happier and so was Blackie.
