And So We Wait…….

She makes no sound within the confines of the carrier on the way to the vet. Most cats, yowl their protest to the world, indignant they are confined, the vibration of the car engine disrupting their day, traffic passing by adding to their fear. Or they pee in the corner or dislodge their latest meal- an “offering” to their owner. Something for the human to look forward to. But not Shell, she lies quietly in the carrier, covered with a soft blanket accepting her fate without knowing what that fate will turn out to be. I am sure she is wondering; “What in the world is going to happen to me next?”

Dr. Steve informs me that her mouth looks only a little bit better. He had hoped the ulcers and ulcerated tissues would have responded to the meds better. But they are still angry and inflamed, as if someone poured acid down her throat leaving blisters and redness behind.

She has gained only 1/4 of a pound. They drew her blood and tried to aspirate urine from her bladder, but Dr. Steve informs me sadly that her bladder is the size of a wrinkled walnut.

He sent the blood out for testing with a note to ask the lab to save some blood back for further testing just in case. He informs me that they cannot test for Cushings right now -that involves something else, I thought he said a fructose test- but I am not sure.

She was on her best behavior and even when they found it difficult to find a vein in her thin body, she accepted it all without complaint. So now we wait, the results will be in no later than Weds night. He will call me immediately as soon as he knows. Once again, the situation rests with God. His test one of Patience, taught to me by a bone-thin cat with a sweet spirit and a don’t-give-up-on-me-yet tortitude! (If you click on this whole posting, you should see her waiting at the vets.) chalk that up to me being tired.

  3. Hello beautiful girl! We know you are trying very hard to get better and you have come so far! We are purrring very hard for you!

  4. I wish her response had been one of accelerated healing and health. All who have heard of this lady surely feels the same. I doubt I would be as brave and noble as she is facing what she faces. Perhaps the best you can give her is love and a chance to know she matters in this life or, she might still surprise you. She is in my prayers! Marian in Houston

  5. Gosh, MaryAnn, you are one super human. And Shell sounds like such a trouper. She just knows you are trying to help her so she isn’t going to complain. And you sure can’t leave it in better hands than God’s hands. We just know she is going to get better. We hope that ulcerated mouth would get better but isn’t Shell brave to keep on eating. Take care MA and get some rest yourself.

  6. I love how much better Shells seems to feel and look. Did the Dr. say anything about that? Not that Shell needs to impress him, but she sure has done that with all of us who are following her story. Suchs a tiny fighter…thank you for being her manager! I know she will win the champions belt!!

  7. I am encouraged by Shell’s will to live and love and to be loved. I have experienced that same “fight to live” in a kitty before. Thank you for giving her your all. My thoughts and prayers are with you both. Prayers to Mike as well. God’s speed.

  8. We’re still purring and purraying hard. She looks so much better, brighter and more like a cat than she did when you first wrote about her. Didn’t her vet comment about that? Ours always says “where there’s life there’s hope”. A good sign that even tho she’s peeing alot it’s all in the litter. God’s hands are good hands to be in and no matter what happens she’s found love in your hands too.

  9. Sweet little Shell, Momma and the five of us are purring our little heads off (well Momma is praying hers off) for you. Your picture is so stirring … one of quiet dignity and peace. The Angels must be holding you in their arms! Your Momma’s love is mighty strong … keep believing that you will continue to heal. You and your Momma REALLY need each other!

  10. Such a sweet girl … the kitties and I continue to purr for Shell and send healing energy.

  11. I think she does looks so much better – it took time for her to get into this condition and you will have to wait for things to turn around. I have given antibiotics for 3 weeks for an infection in a cat before I really saw improvement – it is too soon to tell unless something else shows up. Sending lots of purrs for you both.
